I cover the important things I want to know before starting Aniimo, including common mistakes, useful beginner tips, daily and weekly priorities, and ways to avoid wasting limited resources. I start with the mistakes I avoid early in the game, including Glimmer, premium Aniipods, Aniimo upgrades, and the daily merchant.
I then cover useful things I keep in mind while progressing, including Aniimo storage, Pathfinder exams, daily events, Alpha farming, and Aniimo potential. I cover the mistakes I avoid as a new player, useful things I want to know early, and the priorities I follow during the first week.
Aniimo Noob Traps
Glimmer
I don’t spend glimmer early in the game. I wait until at least level 40+, and preferably until I reach the endgame or finish the Breezy Plains story.
Glimmer is a freemium currency that mostly comes from one-time sources. There are plenty of these sources early in the game, which can make it seem like glimmer will always be easy to get. In reality, it is a limited currency unless I buy it with real money.
Premium Aniipods (Ultras, Sparklings)
I don’t use premium aniipods on just anything. I can manually unequip them from the inventory screen, which removes them as an option when I throw aniipods in the open world. This helps me avoid using them by accident.
I use Ultras for catching alphas, which is only needed once for the aniilog entry, and for guaranteeing elite potential on rare eggs or aniimo.
The game says there is only one chance to catch an alpha. This does not mean the alpha never respawns. Unlike normal aniimo, an alpha despawns after escaping an aniipod instead of letting me throw another one. It respawns later, which was after 1 minute, and I can fight it again for another chance to catch it.
I use Sparklings when I find an aniimo I really like or a rare form or trait, such as Prismanas or alphas. They guarantee perfect potential.
Upgrading Aniimo
This is less of a trap now that refunds and transfers exist, but I still pay attention to where I spend upgrades.
Some aniimo upgrades can be fully refunded, some can be transferred between aniimo in the same family, and others are permanent to that specific aniimo. I plan ahead because these upgrades are generally timegated or limited.
| Upgrade | Purpose | Refundable | Transferable |
|---|---|---|---|
| Potential Awakening | Upgrades innate potential (IV), up to 20 | Aniimo below Level 60 | Aniimo in the same family, any over cap refunded |
| Resonance | Additional raw stats | No | Aniimo in the same family, any over cap refunded |
| Capability Fruit Awakening | Grants +1/+1 to 2 main potentials | No | Can be transferred to aniimo in the same family, unknown if fruit is refunded if both aniimo used one |
| Prismatic Stone | Upgrades core skill | No | No, so I treat it as permanent |
| Psyche Fruit | Rerolls personality | No | No |
| Cosmetics | Examples: Sparkling Mark, Prismana Orb, Morph Orb | No | No |
Daily Merchant
I check the mysterious vendor in Astra every day. It sells a random stock of items for credits, including upgrade materials, primegy, and discounted aniipods such as Sparklings.
I buy these whenever they are available because credits are free and plentiful compared to the items being sold.
Tips and Tricks
Aniimo Coverage
I save at least 1 of each aniimo, including every evolution stage and form.
Several quests and exploration routes require specific aniimo. Keeping one of each in storage saves me from having to backtrack later.
There is plenty of aniimo storage available, with 360 slots to start and another 360 while leveling.
Prioritize Exams
As I level up, my level can become capped until I complete a Pathfinder Rank exam.
I complete these exams as soon as they become available. They increase the level cap for both me and my aniimo. I can continue earning experience beyond the player cap, but my aniimo stop earning experience when they reach theirs.
The exams also unlock features such as player skills and game modes like Holo Battle Sim. They also increase the world level, which determines the level of aniimo found in the wild. This saves me time and resources when leveling them manually and also increases the quantity of rewards from alphas and omegas.
Daily Tea Time
I visit the Star-Crossed Tea Party in Astra every day. This event gives some currency, including battle pass and town currency, for spending a few minutes in a cafe.
The currency can be used to buy useful items, but the more important part is that aniimo can interact with each other during the event.
One rare interaction can permanently increase an aniimo’s actual stats. This does not increase its innate potential. For example, an aniimo with 5 HP potential will still have 5 HP potential after the interaction, but its actual HP can increase.
It is unknown if this bonus can stack several times on the same aniimo, so I still visit daily for the chance.
Alpha Farming
I don’t need to capture an alpha to get its endgame drops.
The endgame loop of farming alpha aniimo for upgrade materials and equipment rewards the drops simply by using primegy, even if I fail to capture the alpha.
Because of this, I don’t waste Ultras when farming endgame drops.
Aniimo Potential
Potential is one of the endgame power systems. Because of the transfer system, I don’t need to understand every part of it anymore, but I still keep the information in mind because the game doesn’t fully explain the system.
When I clean out my aniimo storage or decide which copy to invest in, I mainly consider elites and perfects. Lower rarities require significantly more materials to reach the same level.
I still keep one copy of every aniimo for quest and exploration coverage regardless of its potential.
The systems I use to max out an aniimo are:
- Resonance (stage 7): I use materials to make it stronger.
- Potentials: I can reach 20 in all 6 of ATK, HP, BREAK, REGEN, PHYS DEF, and MAG DEF.
- Core skill upgrade: I use a Prismatic Stone.
- Personality: I use Psyche Fruits to get the personality suited to the role.
- Carried items: I equip aniimo equipment, which can be freely equipped and removed.
The potential system is the only one that varies between individual aniimo. A lower innate potential means I need more resources to reach the same maximum value.
Potential ratings are essentially ranges for these innate potentials. They can be used as a rough benchmark, although the label itself is cosmetic. A maxed-out common with 120 total potential is functionally identical to a maxed-out perfect with 120 potential, except for the common label.
- Common (0-3 on 2 main potentials) and Good (4-5 on 2 main potentials) aniimo can always be released, while keeping one for coverage. Elites are a significantly better starting point without being overly rare.
- Elite (6-7 on 2 main potentials) aniimo make up 7% of catches. I keep them because they can reach the perfect label if they cross the perfect threshold with a Capability Fruit, which gives +1 to both main potentials.
- Perfect (8-10 on 2 main potentials) aniimo make up 0.8% of catches, so I keep them.
After removing commons and goods, I compare my elite and perfect aniimo by looking at how much it costs to max their potentials.
| Innate Potential | Total Cost to awaken potential to 20 |
|---|---|
| 0 | 15 Star Dust + 15 Star Sand + 55 Star Essence |
| 1 | 15 Star Dust + 15 Star Sand + 45 Star Essence |
| 2 | 15 Star Dust + 15 Star Sand + 36 Star Essence |
| 3 | 15 Star Dust + 15 Star Sand + 28 Star Essence |
| 4 | 15 Star Dust + 15 Star Sand + 21 Star Essence |
| 5 | 15 Star Dust + 15 Star Sand + 15 Star Essence |
| 6 | 15 Star Dust + 15 Star Sand + 10 Star Essence |
| 7 | 15 Star Dust + 15 Star Sand + 6 Star Essence |
| 8 | 15 Star Dust + 15 Star Sand + 3 Star Essence |
| 9 | 15 Star Dust + 15 Star Sand + 1 Star Essence |
| 10 | 15 Star Dust + 15 Star Sand |
Each missing level of innate potential costs more Star Essence to reach the maximum of 20.
Because of this, when I compare two copies, I don’t only look for the highest potentials. I also look for balanced potentials.
For example:
- 10/10/5/5/5/5 costs 60 Star Essence.
- 10/10/6/6/4/4 costs 62 Star Essence.
- 10/10/7/7/3/3 costs 68 Star Essence.
Star Essence was timegated, with only 3 free Star Essence guaranteed from Omegas each week. More could come from limited sources such as events or the mysterious vendor.
This meant picking the wrong aniimo could add up to 3 weeks to the time needed to max its potentials. The dev letter addressed this by increasing Star Essence output and allowing almost all upgrades to transfer, so I don’t need to worry about this as much anymore.
Optimizing Week 1
Unlock Dailies
My first priority is unlocking dailies as quickly as possible.
Dailies reset at midnight UTC+8, but this has not been confirmed as the reset time for release.
RV/Homeland Dailies
I reach Intermediate Student at level 25 to unlock these.
The RV took a lot of real-world time to develop, sometimes taking hours or even days, so I start development as early as possible.
Most of the RV loop was used to get currency for decorations or crafting aniipods and XP fruits. The RV also had element-specific buffs from daily quests, giving 7% damage/resist per element.
These buffs could also be shared by using a friend’s or neighbor’s RV.
The RV system sounds like it has been significantly changed because there is now a house, so this priority may change.
Nuture Dailies
I collect 30 Lumin Amber to unlock these.
Nurturing had a 10-per-day limit, along with free nurtures that regenerated over time. I unlock the free nurture as soon as possible so I don’t waste its regeneration.
The dev letter says this system was revamped, so this may have changed.
Inferlupa Timegate
I don’t need to rush this one, but I keep it in mind.
The quest to unlock the Inferlupa evolution had a 3-day daily reset timegate. Starting the timegate early saves me some frustration later.
Unlock Weeklies
My second priority is unlocking weeklies before the first weekly reset.
The weekly reset was Monday with the daily reset at 00:00 UTC+8, but this has not been confirmed for release.
Holo Battle Sim
I reach Beginner Wayfarer at level 40.
There were 9 basic levels from level 40-55 and 3 advanced levels at level 60.
Weekly rewards were based on completing the advanced tier during the previous week. There were no rewards during the first week because there was no previous week.
My goal is to clear the advanced tier 6 times so I can get the maximum rewards in the second week.
Lumin Amber Egg
I collect 90 Lumin Amber.
This unlocks a weekly Wonder Egg, which guarantees an alpha or sparkling aniimo. It spawns near the top of the huge plant near the center of Breezy Plains, the first region.
Star Essence Exchange
I unlock the 3 Omega aniimo.
Each Omega aniimo could be fought once per week for rewards, giving a total of 3 Star Essence per week.
This was only a small amount compared to what was needed, but the dev letter mentioned increasing the output, so this may no longer be a priority.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to optimize everything if I'm only playing for fun?
I can absolutely play just for fun. The only content where optimization really mattered was Holo Battle Interlink, which was a weekly raid mode with tiered rewards.
Can I run straight to a high-level area on Day 1 and catch something with an Aniipod Ultra?
I can, but the level is capped by the story. Unless I really want a specific aniimo early, there isn't much reason to do this.
What aniimo should I catch early?
My starter is strong enough to get me through the story. At endgame, I build teams around elements because the elemental type bonus is significant, with +60% weakness damage and -37.5% resistance damage.
How much should I explore while leveling?
I can play however I want. I prioritize Pathfinder exams when they become available because they unlock several important things. Outside of that, I can ignore the story and explore the entire island if I want. I personally focus on the story for unlocks and pick up things directly along my path.
