In Nivalis Nights guide, I explore Nivalis Nights without a map and learn the city by finding important locations myself. I cover my apartment, starter vendors, boat, refueling station, ramen shop, fishing after curfew, and other useful tips I find along the way.

Nivalis Nights Map and Important Locations

My Apartment

I remember where my apartment is. When I take the taxi back from Meridian Market, I find it in the back right corner. I go up a flight of stairs tucked behind a concrete entryway. I make sure I get there before 1am unless I am ready to be Catherine Zeta Jones dipping beneath some lasers.

Starter Salesfolks

I find most of the food goods I need in the central area of Meridian Market. I find furniture and hardware in the outer area, although the prices are bad. If I spend too much time looking for the farming systems, I check the hardware vendor. I find them there. If my cash flow is positive, I just pay the higher price and move on.

My Boat

I get my boat down at the docks. If I fast travel from it, I leave it wherever I last use it. I can leave it in the middle of a fishing spot or somewhere with nothing around it. I use this to my advantage because Corpsec has no boats. After curfew, I can use the waters more or less freely.

Refueling Station

I find the refueling station to the right of the oil rig when I leave from the starter dock in the docks neighborhood. I make sure my ship does not run out of fuel. I also stock up here because this seems to be the cheapest gas on the waterfronts.

Other Things

I do not know yet. I just start.

I Am Not Good at the Ramen Shop Thing

I am not good at this part of the game yet, which is actually kind of great.

So, I start with $1000. I usually make around $200-400 a day, although some days reach $1500. My income goes up and down constantly, and it feels like I am riding a bucking bronco with the whiplash.

I turn down a software package that is supposed to optimize some corpo nonsense. I think I take the package if I start again. I do not know what it does, but it has to be better than the whiplash I am riding.

Now, I have good days and bad days. I hire people, fire people, and try to survive on pennies. I somehow keep my employees even when I fail to pay them for two days a week, assuming I pay them enough in the first place.

A five-day stretch where I make $300 a day. Then everything falls apart. I fire people and mash through orders myself to stay afloat because a competitor plants rats in my restaurant.

I try to keep the business stable without spending half the day or more managing it myself. I get it working for a while, but there are so many things affecting the business. It is cool, but it also gets overwhelming.

Fishing: How to Cheese, Presumably

I use fishing after curfew when I want to make easy money.

Curfew is the one time of day when time stops. I use this to catch as many fish as I want. Then I sleep and sell the fish to a vendor in the morning.

When I can access the docks, I head there. I get a boat, which seems to be the one thing even a god cannot take away from me. I do not pay rent or worry about damage. I only need fuel.

I get a fishing rod from Ady. I find Ady on the far side of the boat when I come down the ramp from the taxi platform.

I can fish from the shore or from the boat, but I need a rod first. If I do not get one from Ady, I buy one for around $100 from the Stacks. I can also buy better rods there and at other shops on the waterfront.

When I fish, I look for real, glowing fish in the water. I cast my rod where I see them. If I cast into empty water, I can wait for a very long time. When I see fish surfacing, I cast there.

I catch as many fish as I have the patience for during curfew. I then sell them in the morning for about half of what I see on the fishing UI.

I also find that fishing normally feels more rewarding and less monotonous than using this method.

Tips and Tricks

  • I look for brightly colored papers sitting on boxes, benches, and other places. I use these menus to unlock new recipes for my restaurants.
  • I check the color around a fish in my guide when I need a specific fish for a quest. I then look for the same color in the water where I fish.
  • I can sabotage other businesses and steal their appliances after curfew. I make sure I have a backup plan in case CorpSec catches me.
  • I find a picture of a dog in a silly hat. I see if I can add it here without location spoilers.
  • I appreciate the developers and everyone involved with creating this game. It is super neat.
