The Lantern of the Laughless Saint Character Creation and Basic Skills Guide

In this guide, I explain a list of characters I can start my journey as, including the effects on gameplay they may have. As I level up, I find two possible options like I can allocate skill points to skills I like or I can keep collecting skills by performing relevant actions.

Basic Skills Guide

I get access to all my Skills after creating my character. After leveling up, I receive +5 Skill Points, which I freely distribute among my Skills. I don’t have to rely only on Skill Points, though, since I also raise Skills by performing related actions.

I recommend saving Skill Points for Skills that are harder to raise naturally, such as Combat Skills. Sprinting, Swimming, and Sneaking increase naturally as I use them.

Some races start with negative Skill Adjustments. For example, choosing Calyx gives me -10 Swimming at the start, so my Swimming Skill appears as -10 in-game.

In the Skill tab of the main menu, I find a description for the selected Skill, my current Skill Level, a progress bar showing my progress toward the next Skill Point increase, and a “+” sign for spending my acquired Skill Points.

I save Skill Points when possible. Every natural Skill increase raises the Experience required for the next level, while Skill Points ignore the Experience requirement and immediately increase the Skill by one level.

Umbrite (Faithful Militant)

Umbrite Faithful Militant

Skill Adjustments

  • +5 One-Handed
  • +5 Two-Handed
  • +5 Channeling

If I choose Umbrite, I grow up among the followers of Queen Umbrinox, who claims to be the one true god and the creator of all other gods and the world itself. I don’t necessarily have to be a devoted worshipper, but my upbringing is tied to the Umbrite faith and the surrounding baronies.

Follow her rule, and you will do fine. Worship her, and you will do great. Aggravate her, and you will wish you’d never been born.

Al-Fijhani (Cunning Trader)

Al-Fijhani

Skill Adjustments

  • +15% Better Prices
  • +15 Lockpicking
  • -20 Max Health

If I choose Al-Fijhani, I grow up learning how to identify unmet needs and turn them into opportunities. Trading is considered one of the noblest passions, and gaining status is important whether I do it through bartering, plundering, or casting magics.

If only a fool would pay your price then you must peddle your wares in the province of fools.

Ruggite (Pale Acolyte)

Banner Ruggite

Skill Adjustments

  • +100 Max Magic Power
  • -30 Max Stamina
  • 50% Weakness to Fire
  • +1 Starting Spell

If I choose Ruggite, I become a worshipper of Ruggul the Wrathul, the god who lives in the sky. I have lived for centuries and have become pale and sickly, but spending so many years under Ruggul’s light gives me enhanced magical abilities.

Many false gods claim to reside in the sky – Ruggul truly is. The Crimson Moon over the Crimson Desert, watching his people perform their prayer through combat.

Thrakh (Reptilian Wanderer)

Skill Adjustments

  • +50 Max Carry Weight
  • +15 Swimming
  • -10 Archery

If I choose Thrakh, I play as a member of a reptilian race that once controlled a powerful civilization that has since fallen into ruin. Their descendants now wander the world and generally keep to themselves. Because outsiders rarely show them generosity, they have learned to survive without relying on others.

Calyx (Psionic Feline)

Calyx

Skill Adjustments

  • +15 Psionics
  • -5 Armor Skill
  • -10 Swimming
  • +1 Spell (Night Eye)

If I choose Calyx, I live across the domain of man and settle wherever I choose. I am closely connected to nature and adapted to surviving in the wild. My Night Eye lets me see shapes in complete darkness and unlit caves, where humans would be unable to see anything.

The Calyx are treated as inferior to other bipedal races, as people believe that wherever Calyx are found, misfortune follows.
